Don't Talk To The Cops

With fierce b-boy style and head-banging beats, DON’T TALK TO THE COPS! has exploded on the scene with an infectious energy that creates an instant party. DjblesOne and emecks produce songs that are both nostalgic and progressive, combining elements of soul, hip hop, electronic and punk music with their fun attitude, humor and underground dance party vibe.

Part of the Seattle-based LOVE FAMILY, djblesOne and emecks are both accomplished performers who honed their skills in front of audiences around the country. DjblesOne is a longtime breakdancer, producer, and DJ, works with b-boy supergroup THEM TEAM, has toured the world with the Massive Monkees crew, and is well-known mixtape specialist in the b-boy community. She stands only half his height, but partner-in-crime emecks has a larger than life attitude; the professional choreographer adds wicked dance skills and animated personality to the group's vivacious sound. This dynamic duo is backed by MASH HALL family member El Mizell, the DJ element behind a live show that will smack you in the face and demand attention.

Since the release of their first album, Regular Show in March 2011, DON'T TALK TO THE COPS! has already booked a strong line-up of show dates this year, including the Capitol Hill Block Party, Doe Bay Fest, Reverb Festival, and City Arts Festival. Currently at work on a new album, the group is set for a fall West Coast tour and many other big things to come.

“Don't Talk to the Cops are Mash Hall's Bles (djblesOne) and Emecks, making punk-minded, irresistible breakbeat gold…At 6'5", Bles is an improbably lanky, rangy whirlwind of break moves and footwork. Emecks is more compact, overloaded with sass power and b-girl boldness. Together they rap, strut, and put on a hook-stuffed synth and beat revue. It's soul with attitude.” -The Stranger, Trent Moorman (June 21, 2011)

“My favorite local release thus far into 2011 must be Regular Show, the debut album from Mash Hall offshoot Don’t Talk to the Cops...The songs are often funny and funky while being catchy and weird, all in the best possible combo. Throw in some unexpected samples and it makes Regular Show a great left-field hip hop album.” -Another Rainy Saturday, Chris Burlingame (April 5, 2011)

“If Cam’ron’s famed 60 Minutes interview was not a real-life treatise on the morality of telling on your serial killer neighbor but instead a set piece from Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo waiting to burst into a flashy b-boy extravaganza at the first mention of “stop snitching,” it would sound like Seattle duo Don’t Talk To The Cops!” -SSG Music, Joe Gustav (March 9, 2011)

“”Guess I'm Strange” is about not playing popularity games, and since Don't Talk to the Cops! makes self-described "underground dance music for underground dance culture," it's not likely to be nominated for a Grammy. But in my world, the group is worthy and the song is a winner.” -Seattle Times, Andrew Matson (February 9, 2011)
