
Michael Van Horn
Michael Van Horn is an artist and the curatorial advisor for the Joseph and Elaine Monsen Photography Collection in Seattle.
In 2011, he selected Mitzi Pederson for a residency and exhibition at the Open Satellite Gallery in Bellevue, Washington. During her residency, Pederson developed work for an exhibition and publication titled the still night air. In 2010, Michael organized Contemporary Works from the Monsen Family Collection, a selection of recent acquisitions, for the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle. He has created exhibitions of virtual and physical works that explore the online world Second Life, such as Sudo Island for the 2006 Aqua Art Miami project room and Pixel Dolls, Meat-Space, and Everything At All Once for Seattle’s 2006 Arts Festival.
His earlier exhibitions include Multiplex: Work by 22 Artists (2002), also for the Bumbershoot Arts Festival, and Performing Photography (2001), an exhibition at the Henry Art Gallery featuring photographs of performance art and photographs of events staged specifically for the camera.
Michael received his B.F.A. in filmmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and his M.F.A. in photography from the University of Washington, Seattle.
