Serrah Russell
Serrah Russell is an artist and curator living in Seattle. She currently runs and curates the online project Violet Strays. As a weekly rotating online exhibition space, Violet Strays seeks to create an environment to forge connections between artists and the internet.
Encouraged to trust their own instincts, artists create work specific to the site, allowing their work to follow the inevitable passing of time with its removal. Past curatorial experience includes a pop-up exhibition at Cairo gallery entitled Our Family; consisting of artist's interpretation of family through their manipulation of found snapshot photography. Upcoming projects include an interactive exhibition for NEPO House where viewers are invited to actively participate in the curation process through their arrangement, removal and inclusion of an archive of images. Serrah's artistic and curatorial work continues to be motivated by fascination with appropriation, the space between the past and the present and visual depictions of the presence of absence.
