Artists find sources of inspiration everywhere around them whether it's their physical surroundings, relationships with other people or emotional turmoil that works its way out through lyrics and haunting melodies. A particularly painful source of inspiration is what drove the music for Lost in the Trees' sophomore album A Church that Fits Our Needs.

While in the throws of releasing their first album, the driving force behind the band, Art Picker, lost his mother to suicide. It's hard to imagine what we would do with ourselves if something so unexpected and disheartening came about. Art funneled his pain and onslaught of emotion into their second release. Every moment has a dark, deeper feel, like any moment we'll be swept away in a current as the flood of music pushes you forward. It is unlike most of the music you hear on a given day and pulls you into a storyline that exists only in your mind.

You can experience a taste of this newer release in the video below. With lush imagery and jarring movements, you can begin to imagine what must be ticking away in Picker's mind as his hands quickly scribbled together the combination of words that melded into these songs. It's going to be an incredible night as Lost in the Trees headlines the Crocodile with supporting bands Horse Feathers, Midtown Dickens and Dana Buoy.

The trio of Irish boys that make up Two Door Cinema Club have been running themselves ragged throughout the US and around the world on tour so people can get to know them up close and personal. WIth tour-mates like Tokyo Police Club and Foals, these guys were having no trouble getting a large audience to notice them.

Earlier this year TDCC decided to slow down a bit and finally take time to record a second full-length. This release was dubbed Beacon and they found themselves rooted to LA for the length of its production. This one was put together in a home studio which helped them to relax and work through the songs at their own pace. It was released in late August to just as much positive acclaim as their first release Tourist History.

They apparently love touring in the States where they still have yet to hit it really big. In Europe  most of their shows are in front of huge crowds, but touring in the states consists of a van, driving cross-country and really connecting with fans in smaller venues. When asked about this new album, guitarist Sam Halliday said "I think, if you didn't like our first record, you probably don't have to like it to like Beacon. But I suggest you give it another go. Give us another chance." (via Under The Radar Mag)

We suggest you do just that and head out to their City Arts Fest performance at Showbox SODO on Saturday Oct 20th.

New FATL album Scarlet Fever

Fox and the Law have been in the Seattle scene for a while but it's been some time since they released a new full-length. On August 18th they celebrated dropping their brand spankin' new album Scarlet Fever. You can check out the full release and even download the single "Something Bad" at their Bandcamp page. Meanwhile check out the video for "Feel So Blue" from the new album.

A Fine Frenzy is set to release their newest album, Pines, in early October. That's just in time for their City Arts Fest performance on October 17th so hopefully they'll treat us to a great mix of new and old tunes. For a little taste of what is to come, they've released a little teaser with a video for one of the singles, "interview", from their pending album. Check it out!

It's finally here peoples!  The SCHEDULE GRID is available HERE.  Plan your fest and get those wristbands now before they sell out.

It’s simple to plan a night out at the fest, car-free. Clearly you're going to be having some fun. Perhaps even enjoying a beverage (we suggest a Heineken, Sailor Jerry, Tullamore Dew or coffee from Stumptown for a most enjoyable fest experience).

Sound Transit’s trip planner is a handy tool.

An ORCA card makes transferring easy.  Ride Link light rail downtown (or a bus, or the Sounder) and then hop on a bus to Capitol Hill or Belltown for as-much-of-the-fest-as-you-can-get.

Get your hands on a free ORCA card!

Ask for an ORCA card when you pick up your wristbands at Culture Club. Each card is loaded with a pass that is good for all services into downtown Seattle.

Bonus – the card is good from October 15 – 20. Once the fest is over, the card is yours to add value or passes forever.

There’s a limited amount, so go early.

We're closing in on the festival and wristbands are going fast.  If you haven't gotten your all-access wristband yet, you should!  With one wristband you get access to every show at the festival.  That's a LOT of memories and a lot of great bands.  For $55 you can go from show to show and see whatever you want.  The schedule will be released soon and is built to allow you to hop around.  See you soon!
