Benaroya Hall
Benaroya Hall, a beautiful multi-purpose performance space occupying an entire city block in downtown Seattle, is home to the distinguished Seattle Symphony Orchestra. The hall opened its doors in September 1998 as the first venue in Seattle designed exclusively for symphony performance. The design by local LMN Architects received a 2001 American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Honor Award for outstanding architecture. A 4,490 pipe Watjen Concert Organ was added to the Hall in July 2000, greatly increasing programming opportunities for Seattle Symphony and other ensembles. And in 2001, a new space was dedicated as a “learning center,” named the Soundbridge Seattle Symphony Music Discovery Center. Soundbridge connects music lovers with the Seattle Symphony and features interactive exhibits, orchestral instruments, and a workshop/performance space. Including hosting a slew of internationally acclaimed artists Benaroya Hall now presents more than seven hundred public and private events each year.
Fun fact: Benaroya Hall is home to a Dale Chihuly sculpture entitled Crystal Cascade, which is made up of two whimsical glass “chandeliers” weighing approximately three tons each.
