Town Hall
Town Hall hosts a variety of programs and performances in music, the humanities, civic discourse and world culture. It opened its doors in March 1999 in a Roman-revival-style building designed by Portland architect George Foot Dunham in the early twentieth century. Town Hall's entrance features six two-story columns and intricate window treatments. The structure is covered in terra cotta, which is said to glow after rain showers. Inside, the Great Hall features curved, amphitheater-style seating, brilliant stained glass windows and a beautiful central dome. Its thick stone walls facilitate excellent acoustics. A small stage on the ground floor was the original platform for the early church services, and the lobby boasts the original art-glass Tiffany-style lighting fixtures.
Fun Fact: Originally built as a Christian Science church in 1916, Town Hall was designed to resemble a public building with no religious symbols inside or out.
